About Carolyn Nicholls
I've always loved creativity and studied Textiles and Embroidery at Goldsmith College School of Art. I sold tiny embroidered and hand painted landscapes through Liberties of London and designed for Marshal Cavendish books and other publications. I once embroidered a whole dragon!
I work mostly in oils, but I also love mono printing and exploring mixed media of all sorts. Maybe one day I'll get back to embroidered landscapes with a new twist.
I was lucky to study drawing with Betty Swanwick RA and her influence is still with me today . It wasn't till later in life that I took up painting. I have exhibited in London and locally (Brighton). My work is in private collections in Canada, Australia and Europe. Recent exhibitions include The Crumpetty Tree Cafe (Hove , March-June 2017), Leatherhead Theatre Art Gallery March 2019.
As well as my artistic life I am a Reiki Level II practitioner, for both animals and humans and an Alexander Technique Teacher and Teacher Trainer. I received a Masters Degree (Distinction) from the University of East London for research into the specialised use of the hands in Alexander Technique. I have a second masters degree from West Dean College in Creative Writing. All these things weave in and out of my artistic life. Creativity is the thread that unites all I do.
I run week end courses in 'Painting, Poetry and Breath-work' for those wanting to explore creativity to manage chronic pain, a speciality of mine. No artistic experience required! This course can be delivered online.
