About Carolyn Nicholls
I've always loved creativity and studied Textiles and Embroidery at Goldsmith College School of Art. I sold tiny embroidered and hand painted landscapes through Liberties of London and designed for Marshal Cavendish books and other publications. I once embroidered a whole dragon!
I work mostly in watercolour, but I also love mono printing and exploring mixed media of all sorts. Maybe one day I'll get back to embroidered landscapes with a new twist.
I was lucky to study drawing with Betty Swanwick RA and her influence is still with me today . It wasn't till later in life that I took up painting. I have exhibited in London and locally (Brighton). My work is in private collections in Brighton and UK, Canada, Australia and Europe. Exhibitions include The Crumpetty Tree Cafe (Hove), Leatherhead Theatre Art Gallery March 2019. Woodbourne Coffee House, Lost and Found Tap and bottle (5Ways) and Studio 87 Open House In 2022 and 2023
As well as my artistic life I am a Reiki Master practitioner, for both animals and humans and an Alexander Technique Teacher and Teacher Trainer. I received a Masters Degree (Distinction) from the University of East London for research into the specialised use of the hands in Alexander Technique. I have a second masters degree from West Dean College in Creative Writing. All these things weave in and out of my artistic life. Creativity is the thread that unites all I do.
